For a relaxed beach holiday with a twist, you cannot beat this trip which combines lemur spotting in a beautiful rainforest in Madagascar with a beach break on the tropical island of Mauritius.

In Madagascar, you stay in a remote lodge near the wildlife hotspot of Andasibe-Mantadia National Park. This lush, verdant rainforest is home to numerous species of lemur, chameleon and bird and you will enjoy exploring a number of exciting trails with an English speaking private guide.

In Mauritius, one of the hotels***our clients enjoy is the Veranda Paul et Virginie Hotel & Spa, where you can relax at the beach or by the pool. Excellent facilities mean you can partake in a variety of sporting activities, as well as spa treatments. Cuisine is a highlight. Meal plan at this particular hotel is Fully Inclusive.

During your time in Mauritius, we highly recommend an excursion to Black River Gorges National Park, a tropical Mahogany forest remnant that is home to some of the world's rarest and most endangered birds, like Pink pigeon, Echo parakeet, Mauritius kestrel, Mauritius cuckoo-shrike, Mauritius olive white-eye and Mauritius fody.  Ask us for details, if you wish to arrange a visit to this forest; we'd be delighted to assist.

Another day trip our clients enjoy is to the offshore islet Ile Aux Aigrettes, a predator-free sanctuary which holds populations of endangered Mauritian birds such as Pink pigeon and endemic reptiles such as Telfair's skink. (You can learn more about the inspirational conservation efforts of the remaining Mauritian birds, reptiles and their habitats on the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust's website).

*** This is just sample itinerary to provide guidance as to logistics and experiences, so should you prefer to stay in another hotel in Mauritius, do let us know and we'll quote accordingly. Please note that Veranda Paul et Virginie is an adults-only hotel.

Itinerary

Depart from London*** early this morning on the Air Mauritius flight to Antananarivo, via Mauritius. *** If you are not based in London and wish to fly on another carrier operating flights to both islands, let us know so we can tailor your proposal appropriately for you.
On arrival into Mauritius this morning, connect with the 90 minute Air Mauritius flight over to Antananarivo, where you will be met and transferred to Relais des Plateaux to overnight.
This morning you will be met by your private guide and driver for the 5 hour journey east along deteriorated roads to Andasibe-Mantadia National Park. Begin your exploration of the reserve in search of the Indri and other lemurs. Afternoon and evening walk in the rainforest for nocturnal species. Stay 3 nights at the recently opened Mantadia Lodge (or similar), breakfast, dinner and four days in the rainforest reserves of Andasibe and Mantadia with your private guide included.
Explore the wonders of Andasibe-Mantadia National Park (Perinet) with your guide. In the evening, you will be taken back to the forest to seek some nocturnal species, among them the Eastern woolly lemur, Furry-eared dwarf lemur and Goodman's mouse lemur. This is also the best time to spot the diverse chameleons and tree frogs which find a home here.
Morning rainforest walk in the wonderful Maromizaha Experimental Reserve, or, if accessible and if wildlife viewing has recovered post pandemic, Mantadia National Park. In Maromizaha and Mantadia National Park, look out for the Diademed sifaka, Red-bellied lemur, the insectivorous tenrecs and the rainforest-dependent Velvet asity; Red-fronted coua and many more alluring rainforest inhabitants.
Set off from Andasibe, for the Antananarivo Airport (drive time 5hrs) to check in this afternoon for the 17h00 Air Mauritius flight to Mauritius. On arrival you will be transferred to Veranda Paul et Virginie to stay 7 nights in a Superior double room on an all inclusive basis. Please note that this is an adult-only hotel.
Relax at the beach, or partake in some of the many activities that you can arrange through the hotel.
Another day to enjoy the beach or go sightseeing - the island also has two World Heritage Cultural Sites, the Aapravasi Ghat and Le Morne Cultural Landscape. Alternatively, visitors keen on nature may like to arrange excursions such as to Black River Gorges National Park***, where you can enjoy a walk in this ancient forest which protects some of the world's rarest and most endangered birds. You have a good chance to see species such as Mauritius kestrel, Pink pigeon (pictured here); the equally endangered Echo parakeet and Mauritius cuckoo-shrike. You can also learn about the sterling work carried out through the decades by Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, who, through painstaking efforts, saved species such as the Mauritius kestrel and Pink pigeon, from the brink of extinction. *** An excursion to Black River Gorges National Park, based on 2 people travelling together, is £120 per person. Let us know if you would like us to book this for you - for keen birders and natural history enthusiasts, we highly recommend it. (Rate applies to weekdays)
Fun in the sun - enjoy your time in Mauritius.
Enjoy more of balmy, tropical Mauritius, where the underwater world also beckons marine life enthusiasts - there are some superb diving and snorkelling spots.
Soak up the sunshine and warm Indian Ocean waters around Mauritius.
Depending on your flight time, you might have the use of a day room/ late check-out at the hotel. You will be met at the hotel and transferred approximately 60 minutes back to Mauritius airport to check in for the late night Air Mauritius flight back to the UK.
Arrive back home this morning.
