This 7-day itinerary takes you on one of the world’s greatest railway journeys through the Copper Canyon and showcases the best of Mexico City. The Copper Canyon Railway, locally known as the "Chepe" train, is considered one of the great railway journeys of the world. With stops along the way, you have plenty of time the absorb the magnificent scenery and take in the stunning panoramas of the canyon. Starting your journey in the northern Mexican city of Chihuahua, the train weaves its way through canyons and gorges and crosses deep breath-taking ravines. Watch the changing micro-climates as you climb and descend the canyon complex. Descend through the Sierra Madre mountains to El Fuerte before flying to Mexico City.

Itinerary

Fly into Chihuahua. Set among rugged hills in a semi desert landscape, Chihuahua owes its foundation to the rich veins of silver discovered nearby in the colonial period. The city’s aqueduct dates from that era. Spend a night in central Chihuahua before boarding the Chepe train tomorrow and beginning your journey through the Canyon. Please do note that departure days vary through the year, so the exact details of the itinerary and option may differ according to the time you choose to travel.
Board the famous Chihuahua al Pacifico (otherwise known as the "Chepe") train early in the morning for the start of an epic railway journey into the Sierra Madre Mountains. Relax on board this comfortable train as you travel via tunnels and bridges into the heart of northern Mexico. Upon arrival to the canyon, transfer to your hotel and based for the next two nights with spectacular views of the canyon and have the remainder of the afternoon at leisure.
Today take a tour of the canyon itself. From the Divisadero outlook point, take in stunning panoramic views of the Copper Canyon, before then riding a cable car for some unforgettable views from a variety of vantage points.
Staying at   Mirador Barrancas
Continue on the train today to El Fuerte, descend through the canyon, taking in the dramatic scenery. Upon arrival, you will be met and driven to Los Mochis, 25km from the Pacific Coast. Check in for an overnight stay at Hotel Santa Anita.
You will be collected and taken to the airport to fly to Mexico City today. Upon arrival, you will be taken to your hotel for a 2 night stay in this thriving metropolis. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure.
Soak up the culture and history of Mexico City on a private tour. Built on top of the ruins of the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan, the city's main square and centre point is the Zocalo, one of the largest public squares in the world. Flanked by some of the city's most important buildings, stop by the Metropolitan Cathedral (the largest church in Latin America) and the Palacio Nacional (closed on Monday); home to a series of murals by Diego Riviera depicting the country's complex history. Drive along the famous boulevard; Paseo de la Reforma; Mexico City's main thoroughfare which once connected the Zocalo with the castle of Chapultepec; once home to Emperor Maximilian during his short-lived reign.
Today you will be taken to the airport to continue on your trip. Please ask your Rainbow Tours destination expert for ideas of what to see and do within Mexico.
