Why visit Ghana?

Ghana is one of West Africa’s most rewarding and accessible destinations — a country of extraordinary warmth, rich cultural heritage and remarkably varied landscapes. Whether you are visiting for the first time or returning to explore more deeply, Ghana offers an unforgettable introduction to the region.

From the dramatic Atlantic coastline to the Upper Guinea rainforest and the rich tropical landscapes inland, Ghana’s scenery is as diverse as its people. Visitors are welcomed with genuine hospitality and the chance to experience a vibrant culture shaped by centuries of history, tradition and creativity.

Our carefully designed holidays showcase many of Ghana’s most celebrated highlights. Nature lovers can enjoy the famous canopy walk at Kakum National Park, search for Upper Guinea rainforest birdlife and butterflies in the ancient forests of Ankasa Reserve, or head north in search of dry-country wildlife and striking savannah landscapes.

Ghana’s history and cultural life are equally compelling. Our experienced local guides bring the country’s stories vividly to life while exploring important sites such as Cape Coast and Elmina Castles — powerful and deeply moving reminders of the transatlantic slave trade and its devastating impact on Ghanaian people — alongside the atmospheric fishing towns of the coast and the remarkable Nzulezu stilt village. Community visits around Bonkro offer a rare opportunity to experience rural Ghanaian life first-hand, with locally led initiatives that provide meaningful cultural exchange as well as tangible benefits to local communities.

Travelling in Ghana is about more than sightseeing. It is about exploring colourful markets, meeting welcoming local people, cruising along the Volta River, enjoying superb West African cuisine and discovering a country that remains refreshingly authentic and free from the trappings of mass tourism.

As an English-speaking country with daily direct flights from London, Ghana is also one of the easiest West African destinations to travel to — combining adventure, comfort and cultural richness in equal measure.

Important Note: Ghanaian visas can sometimes take considerable time to process, and yellow fever vaccination certificates are also required for travel. We therefore strongly recommend making your enquiry at least one month before your intended departure date, and ideally earlier where possible.
