St Helena is now introducing mid week flights to the island, and with that we are excited to be able to offer a combination of 4 nights in Cape Town at the lovely, owner-run, Clarendon Fresnaye, followed by 4 nights at the majestic Mantis St Helena hotel. On this trip you will be able to see what the Mother City of Cape Town has to offer, ascend Table Mountain, visit the penguins at Boulders' Beach or learn about the history of apartheid at the Robben Island Museum. We will then whisk you off to the magical island of St Helena, where dophins can be seen all year round. If you travel between June and December, too, you may be lucky enough to see the Whale sharks.

Itinerary

Depart this evening on your flight to Cape Town.
On arrival this morning you will be met and transferred to your guest house, the Clarendon Fresnaye, where you will spend the next four nights with breakfast included. This guest house is perfectly situated to take in the sights and sounds of Cape Town whilst making sure you are away from the crowds. The guest house is intimate and special attention is given to each and every Rainbow Tours client.
Cape Town is a beautiful city to explore. Whether you are a first time visitor or seasonal traveller, there is always something new to discover. Choose to see table mountain by hiking up, riding the cable car or even flying in a helicopter. You could also visit the Kirstenbosch gardens which are spectacular and contain flora that is endemic to South Africa.
Today we suggest taking a trip down to Cape Point to see the Cape Of Good Hope, the Penguins at Boulders' Beach and Clifton beach.
For those travelers keen on wine tasting, the winelands are just an hour away and make for a lovely day trip. If not, there are various other activities that we can arrange. Take a day trip to see the whales (in season) or take a trip up the west coast.
Today you will be taken to the airport for your flight across to St Helena. On arrival you will be transferred to your hotel, the Mantis St Helena, where you will spend the next four nights with breakfast included. The Mantis St Helena has a variety of rooms to choose from. You can stay in some of the heritage-rich rooms or the newer modern rooms. This is the perfect base from which to venture out and discover this magnificent island.
There are a variety of activities to do on St Helena and your consultant can tailor your activities depending on your interests. Today we suggest going up Jacob's Ladder. Built in 1829, this tramway was used to haul manure and military supplies up from the town below. In 1871 it was reconstructed to its present form: 699 steps, an incredible 600ft for you to climb!
Whale sharks are in season between June and December, but dolphins can be seen year round, so we definitely suggest a day out to see the marine life in the waters around the island.
St Helena's oldest resident arrived on the island in 1882 and was estimated to be 50 years old at the time. In 2018 he celebrated his 188th birthday! He is a Seychelles Giant Tortoise and is one of only a handful of survivors of his species, making him a rarity both in type and in age. In fact, he's thought to be the oldest living animal in the world. Visit him in the gardens of Plantation House, the residence of the governor.
Spend your final day touring the island. You could choose to learn about the history of Napoleon, who was exiled to the island in 1815 by the British after his defeat at Waterloo, by visiting French-owned Longwood House which is now a museum. Diving, fishing, hiking or bird watching tours are also available on the island so there is something for everyone to do! In the early afternoon, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Johannesburg. Due to connecting times of the flights, you will need to overnight in Johannesburg to fly onward to London Heathrow. Speak to your consultant if you would like to arrange day tours of Johannesburg. While you're there, Soweto or the apartheid museum are all highly recommended.
This evening you will make your way using the complimentary shuttle back to the airport for your flight to London Heathrow.
