Sao Tome and Principe Escape

Escape to a sublime piece of paradise on this week-long itinerary to Sao Tome and Principe.

During this time, you'll stay at two of our favourite lodges: Omali Lodge in Sao Tome and the newly refurbished Bom Bom Island Resort on Principe.

First, you'll have two full nights on Sao Tome. Omali Lodge is just five minutes outside of town and an hour away from Obo Natural Park, a comfortable base both to relax and from which to explore the island. One compelling sight is the country’s stately roças, which seem straight out of an Isabel Allende novel. Some are huge, with castellated gates and forlorn, semi-derelict hospitals. Others are reviving as the world awakes to the joys of Sao Tome’s delicious organic chocolate.

For the final five nights, simply relax on Principe. Bom Bom Island Resort is set on a tiny, forested islet off the northern tip of Principe - a place to escape the hustle and bustle of the world without giving up on comfort. Excursions here are designed to make the most of the pristine natural world surrounding you, including everything from birdwatching to rainforest hikes, trips by pirogue to see whales and plantation tours. Translating as 'good good', Bom Bom more than lives up to its positive moniker.
