For an unforgettable journey through Patagonia’s spectacular fjords, Australis Cruises navigate through the network of waterways and islands that separate Argentina and Chile at the southernmost tip of South America.
For those wanting to explore the wilds of Patagonia and reach those places that can only be accessed by ship, Australis Cruises offer four-night expeditions travelling between Punta Arenas in Chile and Ushuaia in Argentina. Discover Patagonia’s most stunning remote scenery from pristine sub-polar forest, azure glaciers to panoramic bays surrounded by the rugged snow-capped Andes. Daily activities include land excursions, allowing you to explore this remote terrain on foot and to take a closer look at Patagonia’s abundant wildlife from penguins, elephant seals to an amazing array of birdlife and zodiac cruises to explore uninhabited islands that provide sanctuary for many local birds as well as sea lions, and, occasionally, whales and dolphins. Your expedition leaders will help you identify and learn about the region’s flora, fauna, geography and history.
Australis Cruises offers two expedition ships in its fleet, the Stella Australis and the Ventus Australis.
The Stella Australis is an awe-inspiring expedition ship, constructed in 2010 with a total of 100 cabins, holding up to 210 passengers. This elegant ship offers spacious relaxing and dining areas, a panoramic open-air roof deck and comfortable cabins all with large windows providing excellent views of the surrounding scenery. Gourmet cuisine is served in its dining room and includes local dishes and excellent Chilean and Argentine wines. There is also an open bar service. The Ventus Australis has all the aspects of her sister ship.
Both ships offer short cruises taking in the glacier-lined fjords of Tierra del Fuego, the Beagle Channel and the Magellan Strait. Zodiacs take guests to spectacular locations such as Ainsworth and Wulaia Bay, Pia Glacier and Magdalena Island. A highlight for many, weather permitting, is landing at Cape Horn and walking to the monument at the southernmost tip of the continent. Spot incredible wildlife along the way and back on ship guests enjoy lectures on the local flora and fauna, geology, geography and glaciology.
