Choosing where to start is a challenge, but for many Rio de Janeiro is inevitably the number one attraction on most Brazil holidays. It's an extraordinary place full of energy with an unparalleled gorgeous beach setting. Both by night and by day, Rio is an exciting city – and with its arms outstretched, the iconic statute of Christ the Redeemer watches over it all. Far below are two of the most famous beaches in the world: Copacabana and Ipanema. Several hours from Rio there are smaller resorts such as as Ilha Grande and quaint Paraty to the south or Buzios to the east. Read more about holidays to Rio de Janeiro here.

Equally captivating, another ‘must see’ is the magnificent Iguazu Falls (also spelt Iguaçu). Reached from Brazil or Argentina, world-famous Iguaçu is an astonishing natural wonder that is a mainstay of many Brazil holidays. Most visitors fly from Rio to Iguaçu International Airport and stay either in the national park at the Hotel Das Cateratas or in a comfortable hotel within easy driving distance.

Although you can visit the Amazon from several South American countries, its most famous home is in Brazil. The Amazon offers a unique experience for those wishing to explore the hidden world within the rainforest canopy on holidays to Brazil. Brazil’s Amazon is not only a paradise for birdwatchers and nature lovers, but also provides great opportunities to experience and learn about the cultures of the people who have traditionally lived in the rainforest. The city of Manaus is the most well-known gateway to the Amazon and from here many river lodges can be reached by boat. Less heralded than the Amazon, the Pantanal is one of the world’s largest wetland areas and the best place to see wildlife.
