Experience Highlights

  • Duration: 10 hours

The tour starts out with an unforgettable trip to the city of Castro, Chile’s third oldest city and where the renowned “palafittes” or houses built on stilts over the water painted in colourful schemes can be seen. At the Plaza de Armas, visit the imposing church built in 1912 by Italian architect Eduardo Provasoli. The city’s museum is also visited, and features valuable records of indigenous finds, photos of the 1960 earthquake and tsunami and an exhibition of some typical Chiloe traditions.

Next, the Mirador de Gamboa (viewpoint) is visited, from where the colourful palafittes can also be admired, continuing to the area’s crafts market. The last leg of the trip moves onto Ancud to visit the Regional Museum, the Municipal Market and San Antonio Fort.

Notes: Museum closed Mondays and holidays/PVT
