Experience Highlights
- Duration: 8 hours
This tour offers visits to two quite different spots in a similar area; a breathtaking dawn in the immensity of the desert and the simple life of a small shepherd settlement. Depart before sunrise today (approx. 5am) to the El Tatio Geysers geothermal field, located at an altitude of 4,000 meters, to witness an amazing spectacle at dawn: steaming fumaroles that can reach up to 6 meters of altitude. Enjoy a guided walk round the hot craters of mud and witness the geysers spurting out boiling water. On the way back, stop at Machuca, a picturesque village, with just twenty houses or so and a church, a visit gives a good insight into the way of life of the llama shepherds that inhabit it. The area is home to a variety of local fauna, such as llamas, alpacas, ducks, Andean seagulls and flamingos.
