Stopping at the city of Cartago, make a short stop at the Virgin of the Angel's Basilica, with its large vaulted ceilings and striking stained glass. The building is one of Costa Rica's most well known pilgrimage sites, with many visitors travelling days on foot to reach it. At the Lankester Gardens, admire more than 800 species of orchids, bromeliads and countless species of other native plants. The area around Orosi is of unparalleled beauty; stop at one of the few remaining colonial churches and enjoy a delicious lunch in a local restaurant.
