Experience Highlights
- Duration: 4 hours
You will be picked up at your hotel and driven to the stables where the guide will pick horses depending on the experience of each of the riders. The ride takes about 45 minutes across picturesque farms and forests, to the La Fortuna river where it is also possible with a bit of luck to spot toucans, monkeys, peccaries, coatis and more.
Once you arrive at the entrance of the 70 metre high waterfall, the horses are left behind so you can enjoy the great views from the lookout. After a short break you will walk down 200+ steps to the river for about 20 minutes, passing a suspension bridge of 20 metres until you reach the bottom of the canyon where you can relax and swim in the cool waters of the river for about an hour.
After enjoying the refreshing waters, the walk back to the top starts and when everyone is ready, another 25-minute horseback ride will start heading towards the Maleku Reserve where participants will have the chance of sharing with this indigenous people and learn more about how they live and their habits and customs. Return to the stables.
This is a great tour for those who want to enjoy ride in the rain forest and swim in the pristine waters of the beautiful La Fortuna Waterfall, on the slopes of the Arenal Volcano. Please keep in mind that the hike up and down is moderately strenuous and not recommended for people with limited mobility, a heart condition or physical ailment.
