Experience Highlights

  • Duration: Full day

Leave Quito in the early morning towards Bellavista Cloudforest. En-route there is the option to stop at Pululahua Geobotanical Reserve for a view into the crater with its patchwork fields far below on the crater floor. As we reach Bellavista we climb to the top of the mountain, once again with fabulous views, and start enjoying the flurry of hummingbirds or take a hike into the forest on the reserve varied trails.

At Bellavista Cloudforest Reserve, 170 species of birds have been recorded, and the list continues to grow: Tanager - finch, Giant Antpitta, Swallow-tailed Nightjar, Plush-capped Finch, Beautiful Jay, and the White-face Nunbird are all found here. One of the most popular sights are the brightly coloured Tanagers and the Platebilled Mountain-Toucan.

After lunch at Bellavista Lodge, we will be able to take another hike into the forest. Your guided hike will acquaint you with the exuberant vegetation of the cloud forest, its bird life, and the fascinating adaptations to life in this special environment.

Note - A naturalist guide is included however a specialist ornithologist guide incurs a supplement
