Shaded by a thicket of acacia trees, Elewana Tortilis Camp is in perfect position for you to enjoy a wonderful Amboseli safari holiday in Kenya.

Overlooking its own private wildlife conservancy, the 30,000-acre Kitirua Conservancy, Tortilis is a great choice for families looking for some extra space to sprawl out across. Experienced guides make bush walks and game drives a special experience for young and old alike. And, as part of its conservation strategy, Elewana Tortilis Camp leases a 30,000-acre private concession from the community. This reduces the pressure on the park, providing you with an exclusive area for game drives, walks and bush meals as well as the Masai Mara with additional revenue.

Accommodation & Facilities

  • Tortilis is home to 16 Standard Tents, each built onto a solid base with a private verandah to the front and a plumbed en-suite bathroom in the rear.
  • All tents face outwards from camp, though only nine face Mount Kilimanjaro.
  • On the other side of the hill, on which the central areas are located, is a Family Tent and Private House. Both have two bedrooms with incredible views of Mount Kilimanjaro. They also share the use of a swimming pool.
  • The Family Tent has a short, raised walkway that’s covered, linking the two Tented Rooms (one Double, plus one Twin) and features a spacious, private verandah.
  • The Private House has an open lounge area between the two Bedrooms (one Double, plus one Twin) and features a spacious sitting room with verandah.
  • NB: both bedrooms can fit one extra bed for children under the age of 16yrs only.

Future Plans

Tortilis Camp will close in November 2025 for six months and reopen in June 2026.

It’s set to be completely reimagined to include the following:

  • Tortilis: 16 Safari Rooms.
  • Little Tortilis: two Superior Safari Rooms and two Two-Bedroom Private Houses, each with their own individual plunge pools for you to enjoy during your stay.
  • A new underground hide, photo studio and gym.

Craig’s Experience & Review

Our Africa Travel Specialist, Craig Kaufman, visited Elewana Tortilis Camp in late 2024.

“Elewana Tortilis Camp is a relatively large property, although its size does have more of a lodge feel rather than that of an intimate camp.”“Only Elewana vehicles enter this conservancy, with up to five vehicles around any one sighting. This is compared to Amboseli National Park, where I counted over 50 vehicles around lion sightings in early October! Elewana vehicles can go off-road in the Kitirua Conservancy, which enabled us superb up-close lion sightings and – apparently – one of a cheetah, too.”“During your stay, you can take stunning photos of elephants (herds and individual) from a low position in Kitirua’s vast plains, with Mount Kilimanjaro as a breathtaking backdrop. The camp also has its own waterhole in front of camp, with Mount Kilimanjaro once-again as a backdrop. It’s frequented day and night by a variety or animals, including elephants, zebra and antelope.”“The camp’s location in the Kitirua Conservancy allows for fascinating bush walks hosted by local Masai guides. In addition to this, the bush breakfast is very tasty – perfect for after a morning game drive. You have a choice of eggs, all freshly cooked.”
