The Sanctuary at Ol Lentille

The Sanctuary at Ol Lentille is situated at one of the highest points of northern Laikipia at over 6,000 feet and offers the luxuries of just four fully-staffed stunning houses of different sizes in a 40,000 acre private conservancy. Guests experience fully staffed, private houses, exceptional hosting and varied activities and have over 40,000 acres to discover all to yourself in this stunning part of northern Kenya. Ol Lentille opened in 2007 as Laikipia’s first lodge with private villas and is an amazing example of sustainable tourism, community partnership, world class architecture and interior design and authenticity.

Ol Lentille is a pioneering conservation and community project, pastoral land has been protected and rehabilitated to introduce the wildlife back into this area and the British owners generously donated the property to the local community to ensure that tourism positively affects everyone. It has a spectacular story and over $3.5 million has been invested into water projects, education and healthcare – this is a fantastic example of how private partnerships with the local communities can successfully work. Staying here is a very responsible choice as tourism is directly benefitting everyone and everything.

Accommodation

Ol Lentille provides just four luxury private houses: the three-bedroom Chief’s House with plunge pool, the two-bedroom Colonel’s House with plunge pool, the one bedroom Zanzibar styled Sultan’s House and the one bedroomed retro Eyrie with outdoor double rock bath. All the houses have separate sitting rooms, dining rooms and kitchens and are very well-furnished and lavishly equipped. Each is staffed by a butler, valet, askari and qualified guide, and come with a private safari vehicle. The staff are particularly impressive, warm and friendly.

Activities

Laikipia has so much more to offer than just game drives, the varied activities including walking safaris, camel safaris, quad and mountain biking, horse riding all mixed with a truly authentic cultural experiences makes this a very special part of Kenya to visit. You leave relaxed and refreshed rather than the twice daily game drives that you do in lots of other parts of the county.

Ol Lentille offers day and night game drives in the conservancy, where wild dog, greater kudu, leopard, both striped and spotted hyena, klipspringer and elephant may be seen (Laikipia is home to the greatest number of endangered species in East Africa). Game drives are completely flexible. You can also watch game from the saddle of a camel, horse or mountain bike. Day and night bush walks are other options.

The lodge also offers a jogging trail and quad bikes. At the opposite end of the spectrum, you can relax in the spa or beside the lovely pool, or in the lodge library. You can play boules and croquet or watch game from the deck, or study the bright constellations with the aid of the GPS telescope.
