Experience Highlights
- Duration: 6
- Type: Group Experience
You will be met at your hotel by your guide and driver, and transferred in your private 4-wheel drive vehicle to the small town of Bekopaka, where your local national park guide will join you. The morning starts with a boat trip on the Manambolo River. The small wooden boats are similar to dugout canoes, joined together in pairs to provide stability. The guides will offer assistance, but if you have mobility issues, do discuss this part of the excursion with your guide in advance. You will be able to enjoy the dramatic cliffs along the river, with many birds in evidence. Along the way, you will stop off at a couple of caves, so be sure to bring a torch. At the caves, your guides will tell you little about the first people who lived here. You can also see some the current residents, i.e. many bats! (Some 20 species occur in this limestone plateau). You can see Sakalava burial tombs high on the cliffs along the river. After returning to the bank, your guide will take you on a walk around the 'Petite tsingy' formations. While not nearly as high as the Grand Tsingy, a head for heights and a reasonable level of fitness is also still needed, as you will squeeze through some tight spaces and walk along rock ledges to access a viewing platform. After your activity, return to your lodge for lunch and to relax at the poolside during the afternoon heat.
