Kirindy Forest Baobab Alley visit

The iconic Allee des Baobabs , designated as a national monument, is a 45 minute drive to the north of Morondava. Many visitors like to time this excursion so as to be there at sunset. You can also visit the nearby Baobabs Amoureaux, just a few kilometres further, where two baobab trunks are intertwined. If you are staying at Camp Amoureaux, you can see another similar example. At the 'avenue' itself, you will see resident people using the road, some in vehicles, others simply walking carrying everyday items, often on their heads. The formation of the baobabs along each side of the road, and their size, is what has led to the site being so photographed. You can also easily make a photo stop here during the day, as it is just a short detour if you are travelling the 2 hour road journey between Morondava and Kirindy Forest. We encourage our guests to visit the nearby habitat restoration project managed by the NGO FANAMBY, where for a small donation you can plant a sapling of one of three endemic Malagasy baobab species which naturally occur in the area - the massive Grandidier's baobab, the large southern species Adansonia za and the smallest of the Baobabs, the bottle baobab Adansonia rubrostipa.
