Experience Highlights

  • Duration: 5
  • Type: Group Experience

After breakfast you will be collected from your hotel and transferred by road to the point from where boats (mostly motorised dugouts or 'pirogues'), depart to Lokobe National Park, on south-east Nosy Be. The excursions actually entail exploration of forest just outside of the national park periphery, where there are well- made trails. (Grading: easy). After the boat transfer (about 40 minutes), during which guests can help row if your pirogue is not motorised, you will arrive at the start point of the trail.  Your guide will take you into the forest, where viewing of wildlife including the Endangered and iconic Black lemur (males are jet black, females chestnut), Critically Endangered Hawk's (Nosy Be) sportive lemur and reptiles such as the colourful Panther chameleon, is generally easy and rewarding. After exploring what is Nosy Be's last remaining stand of Sambirano Forest (size: 740ha for the terrestrial sector + 122ha marine sector), lunch will be provided. You will then be transferred back to your hotel.
