Montagne des Francais Baobab trail

Montagne des Francais is a short drive along a good tarmac road from Diego Suarez. From the town, your guide and driver will take you to the entrance, where you obtain your tickets and will be met by a local guide. Set off on foot along the circuit,  which can be varied in terms of length according to your fitness level and what you would most like to see. The main attractions are the two endemic species of Baobab, notably the endangered, dark and flat-crowned Suarez baobab (Adansonia suarenzis) which is found only in the remote north. You will also see several specimens of the large, more widely distributed species Adansonia madagascariensis, which is the same Baobab that can be seen in other sites such as Ankarana and Anjajavy. The baobabs are at their best in a section called 'Baobab Valley'. Additionally, you can see a variety of other interesting, often bloated drought-resistant plants such as locally endemic species of Aloe, Euphorbia and Pachypodium. Along the trail there is a large, recently completed viewing deck with comfortable seating.
