There are two ways to visit this superb transition forest national park, depending on which direction on the RN7 route you are coming from:
Ideally, if you are based at Isalo National Park which is an hour's drive from Zombitse - and where the nearest good quality hotels are located - then your guide and driver will take you to Zombitse after an early breakfast. This way you can take in the hive of activity so characteristic of Malagasy forests during the early morning.
Alternatively, if you are coming from Tulear and driving inland to Isalo, it is possible to visit Zombitse at any time of day, because wildlife viewing is generally rewarding year round and throughout the day in this forest.
Trails in Zombitse are simple and terrain is flat and gentle, so grading is easy. Most guests manage to locate locally endemic species such as Hubbard’s sportive lemur; Appert’s greenbul and Standing’s day gecko. Other sought-after 'specials' often seen in the park include Verrreaux's sifaka and the stately Giant coua.
After having explored a trail in the forest, your guide and driver will transfer you back to your accommodation in Isalo.
