A small, intimate camp with only four safari tents, Kuthengo Camp is the ideal location for families and couples to experience a variety of wildlife activities.

Situated on an open plain toward the Shire River in Malawi’s unspoiled Liwonde National Park, this relaxing retreat is a great base for game drives, boating and guided walking safaris. Not only can you see the big five, but there’s plenty of bird and mammal species to spot along the way. By visiting from June to October, they’ll be more active in the cooler weather, with less rain and drier days.

Accommodation

Kuthengo Camp has four spacious safari tents – all ensuite with bathtubs and outdoor showers.

Awake to the wild and natural sounds of ‘Africa’s voice’, the resident fish eagles, and rise for a spectacular day of game drives and walking safaris. Later on, when you return, you can enjoy the eco-friendly ‘evening breeze air conditioning’ (the camp’s cooling system within a mosquito net over your bed). You can even cool off in the lodge plunge pool and absorb beautiful views while relaxing.

The lodge also offers full board dining – which includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Wildlife, Activities and Entertainment

Embark on a day or night game drive and gaze out of your ‘window’ seat at the wonderful wildlife.

You can spot large numbers of elephant, buffalo hippos and crocodiles as well as kudu, sable and bushbuck. On top of this, a healthy population of rhinos were reintroduced by African Parks in 2019. Predators in Liwonde include leopard (not frequently seen), hyena, cheetah and lion.

There are also boating safaris, where you can see the area’s brilliant birdlife, and guided walking safaris, led by the camp’s knowledgeable guides.
