Bazaruto Lodge

Bazaruto Lodge is in a bay on the northern side of Bazaruto Island, the largest island in the Mozambique's Bazaruto Archipelago.

The island offers turquoise waters and idyllic beaches, and is an ideal base for exceptional diving, snorkelling and fishing. Families will enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, children's rates and the fact that there is good snorkelling right off the beach.

Accommodation

The lodge was recently renovated and offers 40 traditional thatch-roof bungalows, set on the grassy foreshore between bush-clad sand dunes and the beach. Decorated in African style, all the bungalows have private facilities and are equipped with ceiling fans, air conditioning, tea/coffee making facilities and mosquito nets.

Standard rooms are set back in the gardens, superior rooms provide a sea view and additional amenities.

The lodge also provides two family chalets, one right on the beach with two single beds, set behind the wall of the main bedroom; the other, set back in the gardens, has two separate bedrooms. 

Food

The restaurant specialises in fish, seafood and grills, and you can have snacks from the beach bar. A children’s menu and earlier meal times are available.

Facilities at Bazaruto

The lodge is set on a wide beach, where you can enjoy safe swimming. There is a daily complimentary transfer to the vast expanse of beach at Dolphin Bay, where you will also find very good snorkelling. The lodge has a swimming pool, games room with pool and table tennis, a spa, business centre, DVD room, and boutique. Baby-sitting is on request. Water-skiing, wake boarding, landrover hire, dhow trips, boat excursions to the island of Santa Carolina, dhow cruises and sailing are also available. If you wish to discover the island’s wildlife, which includes flamingos on the tidal flats, Samango monkeys, freshwater crocodiles, various small antelope, including Red duiker, and over 160 bird species, the lodge offers guided 4x4 drives.  

Diving & snorkelling

The fully equipped PADI dive centre caters for both beginners and experienced divers. The numerous reef dive locations offer an amazing diversity of hard and soft corals, tropical fish species and five species of marine turtle.   There are some wonderful shore entry snorkelling spots where young children and non-swimmers can safely experience the marvels of the marine world.

Fishing in Mozambique

In addition to the giant black marlin that migrate through the waters of the archipelago in the summer months, there is an astonishing winter run of sailfish and a variety of offshore species including wahoo, dorado, king mackerel, giant trevally and tuna. Light tackle and fly fisherman will be thrilled by the diversity of inshore species on the leeward of the islands.
