Mowani Mountain Camp is set among giant boulders in an area of great scenic beauty between the Ugab and the Huab rivers in southern Damaraland.
Conveniently close to Twyfelfontein, Mowani Mountain Camp is an ideal base for those wishing to explore this area.
Its unusual thatched, dome-shaped structures echo the shape of the rough-textured granite boulders amongst which they are built, creating the ambience of an African village. The main complex overlooks a waterhole where elephants and other animals come to drink.
This stylish camp has wonderful views and is very popular with honeymooners.
Accommodation
There are 14 rooms: twelve luxury East African-style safari tents with en-suite facilities, built on raised wooden platforms, plus a luxury room and a suite. Four of the 12 tents have better views and these are worth the extra cost if you can get one.
Facilities
There is a refreshing manmade rock pool, carved out of the surrounding rock, with a relaxing sundeck.
Activities
The main activity at Mowani Mountain Camp is visiting the renowned San rock paintings and rock engravings, unusual rock formations, such as the Burnt Mountain and the Organ Pipes and the pertrified forest. This can be done as a self-drive or guided excursion.
Drives in search of the elusive desert elephant can also be booked at the camp, as can hot air balloon flights and microlight flights.
