Lüderitz Nest Hotel is a highly reputable property based in the historical coastal town of Lüderitz in the Deep South, Namibia. With its prime position by the sea, you have enamouring views directly from your room or suite, as well as an easy route to see African penguins on nearby Halifax Island.

It’s the place to stay in this sleepy German seaside town, a location that almost feels lost in time.

Constructed on undulating rocky hills and with a temperate climate, Lüderitz is full of colourful and characterful German art nouveau houses and 135 listed buildings. The first large Namibian diamond deposits were discovered just 10km away in the Namib Desert at Namibia’s most famous man-made attraction, Kolmanskop – which has extraordinarily retained many of its original structures.

The incredible two-hour Halifax Island catamaran tour is a must, should you wish to visit and stay.

Accommodation

There are five room types and one suite option to choose from during your stay. These include the Comfort Double Room, Comfort Twin Room, Comfort Family Room, Deluxe Double Room, Deluxe Twin Room and the Suite. All rooms and luxury suites offer direct sea views, and most have balconies to enjoy them from. After a day of exploring the local area, what’s better than sinking into the soft linens of your bed?

Restaurants & Bars

First opened in 1998, the Penguin Restaurant has welcomed discerning patrons from all over the world for almost three decades. Delectable dishes feature everything from West Coast rock lobster and Lüderitz oyster platters to the sought-after Namibian beef fillet steak and vegetarian options.

Gaze out over the sea at Crayfish Bar & Lounge while enjoying a wide variety of drinks. Pick from cocktails, whiskeys, liqueurs, fine South African wines, pure Namibian beers and quality ground coffees paired with fresh patisseries. It’s the perfect place to be after some wildlife watching.

Wildlife, Activities & Entertainment

On Halifax Island, visiting at the right time will treat you to the sight of Heaviside dolphins, Cape fur seals and plenty of marine bird species. Not only that, but there’s even a stop right nearby to see the large colony of over 1,000 African penguins. This is also the only location in the entirety of Namibia where you’re able to witness flamingos and penguins together – a truly unforgettable experience.

You can wander on a guided tour through abandoned mines of the diamond industry and the eerie diamond boomtown of Kolmanskop, which is today spectacularly half-buried in desert sands.

The wild and expansive Lüderitz Peninsula makes for a wonderful three-to-five-hour self-drive exploratory tour. It takes in the Second Lagoon, Dias Point with Dias Cross (that features stunning Atlantic Ocean views at the top), lighthouse, Eberlanz Cave, rocky fjords and unique landscapes.

Other wonderful attractions in Lüderitz include the iconic “church on the rock” (Felsenkirche 1912) and Africa’s biggest and most impressive maritime museum, which hosts around 10,000 exhibits.

Lüderitz also hosts the annual Lüderitz Speed Challenge, where to date no less than 20 world and 150 national speed windsurfing records have been broken – including British male/female records.
