Sao Tome City Highlights

During this half-day private tour, you will see the colonial Portuguese architecture and experience everyday life in the capital. After your private guide and driver collect you from your hotel around 09h00, you begin with a visit to the Fortress of Saint Sebastian (Forte De Sao Sebastião) and the national museum, for an informative introduction to the country's colonial history. Continues on to the Cathedral, an important landmark in the history of Catholicism in Africa; then to Independence Square, where independence was celebrated in 1975. Take in the Municipal Market; see significant commercial houses in the city centre and other noteworthy buildings dating from Colonial times. You can include some shopping for local handicraft/products. End with a traditional Santomean lunch, after which you will be transferred back to your hotel. We recommend you take comfortable walking shoes, sun-screen, insect repellent and a hat. Be sure to have local currency with you for drinks at lunch or for souvenirs  - there is no ATM available on the island.
