The battle of Rourke’s Drift was a battle in the Anglo-Zulu War that immediately followed the defeat at the Battle of Isandlwana. Over 150 British and colonial troops defended against an attack from over 3000 Zulu warriors winning more Victoria Crosses than in any other battle in history.
Rourke’s Drift was a mission station and trading post of James Rourke, an Irish merchant that was located near a drift or ford on the Buffalo River.
