Rocktail Beach Camp is one of the few places one can stay in the Coastal Marine Reserve, stretching for nearly 200 kilometres from Lake St Lucia to Kosi Bay. This secluded lodge is situated in a virgin environment, in the lush forest which covers the ancient sand dunes that line this coast.
The camp is the very first in Africa to receive the Platinum Award in the stringent Green Leaf Environmental Standard. With the Marine Reserve just offshore and the beach a brisk 20-minute walk from the camp, you will find worldclass diving and snorkelling at remote, unspoilt beaches.
The camp consists of 17 rooms. Seven of these are family suites with a shared bathroom and two bedrooms for two adults and two children. There is a central dining room, a bar and lounge with large wrap-around verandah. A raised viewing deck has glorious ocean views. The camp’s main area has a children’s playroom, complete with activities for families.
From a scuba diving perspective, Rocktail Bay is unique. Not only is the diving conducted within a World Heritage Site along unspoiled reefs, but divers have the luxury of knowing that they alone have access to these sites and are the only underwater visitors along this stretch of the coastline. Horse-riding and quad-biking are available nearby and it is possible to observe leatherback turtles nesting at night in season.
