Inkwenkwezi Game Reserve

Inkwenkwezi Game Reserve is a spectacular private game reserve in the malaria-free Eastern Cape, with 4000 hectares of forested river valleys and rolling grasslands overlooking the Indian Ocean on South Africa’s Wild Coast.

It’s a favourite with South African holidaymakers, but less well known to international travellers. 

The reserve protects an abundance of animals from rhino, wildebeest, giraffe, warthog, waterbuck and zebra to springbok, impala, gemsbok, and the unique Eastern Cape kudu. Birdlife includes the rare Stanley’s Bustard, Crested Cranes, Secretary Birds and Ostrich. Game viewing can be done on horseback, on foot or in an open 4WD, all accompanied by a professional ranger.

There is a good size swimming pool, and an undulating river that is perfect for swimming, as well as canoeing. The cliff above the river makes a great spot for abseiling. 

These activities are included in your stay on the reserve. So are your meals, and Inkwenkwezi provides a choice of dining, in the elegant restaurant with views of the bush and the Indian Ocean, its traditional open-air boma or the sunset lapa. 

Inkwenkwezi is just five minutes away from magnificent beaches. The coast offers opportunities for surfing, windsurfing, horse-riding on the beach, fishing trips, and for dolphin and whale watching (in season).  

Accommodation

Inkwenkwezi offers two kinds of accommodation, Bush Camp and Valley Camp. Bush Camp is set on a hilltop with accommodation for up to 12 guests in six safari tents. Each tented room has twin beds and an en suite bathrooms; and is set on a raised timber deck with magnificent views across a valley. A feature of the en suite bathrooms is a shower that is crafted to resemble a cave and blends with the natural rock and bush of the area. In Valley Camp, the accent is upon spaciousness and quality.

Six luxury safari tents nestle among huge indigenous trees close to the river. Each is equipped with two ¾-size beds and feature a sitting area complete with mini-bar, a bathroom with separate shower and bath, and a partially covered viewing deck with easy chairs.

Children

Children of all ages are welcome at Inkwenkwezi.  However, we recommend that children under 12 share a tent with adults, because the tents are set quite far apart for privacy. All activities are available to children with parental permission and supervision.
