Serengeti Wilderness Camp

Serengeti Wilderness Camp is a seasonal tented camp overlooking the Ngare Nanyuki River in the Seronera area of Serengeti National Park.

It has no permanent structures, and it moves at intervals to follow the natural rhythm of the wildlife movements – and to minimise its impact on this extraordinary, fragile ecosystem.

Accommodation

The camp provides ten spacious tents furnished with comfortable beds, bedside tables and lamps, solar-powered lighting and a safari wardrobe. Each tent has private en suite facilities including an eco-friendly loo and bush shower; and a shady verandah area where you can relax and watch the birds and animals.

Facilities

The large and airy lounge, bar and dining areas are under canvas. A selection of books, maps and board games are available in the comfortable lounge, where you will also be able to recharge your camera. The campfire is the traditional place for sundowners and snacks, exchanging the day’s events and safari tales.

Activities

If you are on a fly-in safari, one of the camp’s experienced safari guides will take you on game drives in a customised safari vehicle. The birding is rewarding, both around camp and on game drives. Balloon safaris should be booked well in advance.

Habitat

The Seronera area is in the centre of the Serengeti National Park and, with its permanent water sources, provides phenomenal game-viewing throughout the year. It is a varied habitat of acacia and grasslands, with wooded hills to the south and east of the Seronera Valley. Not only is the Seronera on the crossroads of the Great Migration, the density and variety of grazing animals support high concentrations of lion, leopard and cheetah.

Community & Environment

Serengeti Wilderness Camp is environmentally aware and aims to be sustainable. It uses solar-powered lighting, practices proper waste disposal and water conservation, and takes measures to avoid pollution. It supports a grass-roots tree planting programme, which combines carbon compensation with the benefits of employment, preventing erosion – and providing villages with wood, fruit and shade. It is refurbishing a school near Ngorongoro, where it is also developing solar lighting and a library.

The camp has a policy of local employment, with a commitment to staff training and promotion. Salaries and wages are above the industry average, with responsible working hours and time off.

Location

The camp is the most easterly in the Seronera, providing relative isolation. It is located about 25km from Seronera Airstrip.
