Explore the beautiful hiking paradise that is Réunion, from St Gilles-les-Bains into The Cirques and back.

This nine-day Réunion outdoor adventure combines hiking through three spectacularly stunning natural amphitheatres – the remains of long since dormant volcanic craters – with time to relax on the west coast sandy beaches at St Gilles-les-Bain. A good level of fitness is required for the walking. And, as it’s an unaccompanied trip, it’s more suitable for experienced hikers. We can arrange a qualified mountain guide for you, at an additional cost, which will greatly enhance your enjoyment if you’re new to the wonderful world of hiking.

Itinerary

Day 1 | Fly UK to Réunion

Fly overnight from the UK to Réunion via Mauritius.

Day 2 | St Gilles-les-Bains

Alamanda, St Gilles-les-Bains

On arrival and after a briefing, you'll be transferred to St Gilles-les-Bains. Today, there's opportunity to purchase some helpful supplies for your hike from the local supermarket, ready for the following adventure. Overnight at the Alamanda, with breakfast included.

Staying at

Day 3 | The Cirques

Transfer to Col du Bélier on the western rim of Cirque de Salazie. Then enjoy the next three to four hours of easy hiking to La Nouvelle (1470m), where you can stock up on provisions for the next few days. Overnight at Gîte La Nouvelle, with a delicious Creole dinner and breakfast included.

Day 4 | The Cirques

Marla

Hike four hours south to Marla (1600m). This small hamlet at the south of The Cirques is home to some of the island's most mesmerising landscapes, where gorgeous pastures and fields of lentils reign supreme. Overnight at Gîte in Marla, with dinner and breakfast included.

Day 5 | The Cirques

Cilaos

Spend around seven to eight hours hiking up to Cilaos, a quiet town blooming with a sea of vibrant flora, via the Col du Taibit (2082m). This remarkable route offers enchanting views of Mafate and the islet of Marla along the way. Overnight at Tsilaosa, with breakfast included.

Day 6 | St Gilles-les-Bains

Boucan Canot, St Gilles-les-Bains

After all that unforgettable hiking, you'll transfer to the lively beach resort of St Gilles-les-Bains, where you can enjoy your much-deserved reward - relaxing for the remainder of your experience in beautiful surroundings. Stay for three nights at Boucan Canot, with breakfast included.

Day 7 - 8 | St Gilles-les-Bains

Boucan Canot, St Gilles-les-Bains

For the last two full days of your hiking adventure, you have a plethora of thrilling activities and experiences at your fingertips. Why not relax on the beach, go surfing, diving or sightseeing in the local area? In the evenings, there's even chance for you to explore the cafés and restaurants.

Day 9 | Flight Home

Transfer to the airport for your flights via Mauritius back to the UK.
