Kapamba Camp is set on the banks of the Kapamba River in the far south of Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park, an region of prolific wildlife, including wild dog and a high concentration of lion - and few tourists.

Kapamba provides the pleasures of stylish, deeply comfortable accommodation and warm, friendly service with the joy of being deep in an area of remote bush with excellent guides.

Accommodation

Kapamba is the newest of the Bushcamp Company’s South Luangwa camps. Its four spacious, thatched, stone cottages are open-fronted, so you can savour your view of the river and indulge in private game viewing from your room – or your bed.

At night, your wrought iron gates will be closed to ensure no curious animal comes to investigate your chalet.

The central feature of the lovely, open-fronted bathrooms is the huge sunken double stone bath – you can watch the game at the river while lazing in your bath, or stargaze at night. There is also a double shower.

Facilities

Kapamba’s spacious bar and lounge area overlook the permanent waters of the Kapamba River and provide excellent game viewing opportunities.

Activities

The area around Kapamba is characterised by flood plains, little tributaries and clear springs. It’s easy walking and one favourite walk follows the course of the Kapamba River. The river is both too shallow and too clear for hippos, so you can enjoy a dip in the waters or a sensational feet-in-the-water sundowner.

The wildlife is fantastic and, in addition to its walking safaris, Kapamba offers both day and night game drives – and the option of combining the range of a game drive with the experience of a foot safari. Kapamba is a very small camp with personal service, and will help you work out what you would like to do.

The guiding is really excellent. You can also combine a stay at Kapamba with another bush camp and make the journey between them on foot.

Children

Children over 12 are welcome. Full rates apply. Kapamba is open from 25 April to late December. The best conditions for walking are usually from June through September, but you can take advantage of 'green season' rates in November and December.
