Experience Highlights
- Duration: Full day
The first destination for today on this Sacred Valley tour is Chinchero, a small and colourful town with an important Incan archeological site, built towards the end of the 1400’s, as well as a beautiful and traditional church. You will visit “Urpi”, a famous textile centre where the townspeople have preserved traditional Andean weaving techniques and where they’ll also show you how to obtain the bright colour they put into their fabrics.
On your way to Ollantaytambo, you will stop at the Racchi viewpoint, where you’ll enjoy some of the best views of the Sacred Valley. Then, lunch will be served at a local restaurant.
Continue on to Ollantaytambo, one of the most representative archeological sites of the ancient Inca Empire and one of the few sites where the Spanish lost an important battle. Widely known for its terraces (dug into the mountainsides for agricultural purposes), Ollantaytambo was a fortress that also served as a temple. We will then continue to the adjacent town of Ollantaytambo, “a living Inca city”, the best existing example of the Incan urban planning, with beautiful stone streets that have been inhabited since the 13th century.
