On arriving to the Moche valley, you will be received by a traditional family that descends from the ancient people who built the Sun and the Moon pyramids, the centre of power in the northern coast of Peru during Moche times. Admire the stunning set of mud-brick friezes, excavated by archaeologists on the Temple of the Moon walls. At the museum Huacas de Moche, you will be able to appreciate several artifacts and tombs of the Mochica Culture which is displays various utensils and high artistic ceramics.
Visit the Arco Iris Temple (Dragon) from the Chimu Culture and continue to the archaeological remains of Chan Chan, 6 Km. northwest of Trujillo which although built with mud bricks (“adobe”) are well preserved. The archeological complex of Chan Chan were home to 100,000 habitants who stubbornly resisted the expansion of the Inca Empire.
Then you will continue to Huanchaco, a traditional seaside town, where you can watch the local fishermen on their traditional “Caballitos de Totora” or reed boats. After lunch in Huanchaco return to Trujillo via the mud-brick City of Chan Chan, once the proud capital of the Chimú Kingdom.
