Posada Amazonas is a community owned rainforest eco-lodge 45 minutes by boat from Puerto Maldonado. Built from local materials, the lodge offers 30 rooms all with private bathrooms, hot water, mosquito nets and ceiling fans. Rooms feature an open verandah with views to the forest whilst also aiding ventilation. Connected by boardwalks, the rooms are a short walk from the lodge's main restaurant which offers self-service three course meals, a combination of Peruvian and international cuisine. The community of Infierno manage the lodge in conjunction with Rainforest Expeditions as its located within the Ese-Eja communal reserve, next to Tambopata National Reserve, a perfect combination for sustainable local development whilst caring for the environment. There is a 30m canopy tower with spectacular views of the lush green forest and the Tambopata River. Guests can often spot toucans, parrots, macaws, the prehistoric looking hoatzins as well as mammals such as giant river otters, monkeys and caimans. Shared excursions are on offer from birdwatching, boat trips, jungle hikes and immersive activities with the local community.
