This smashing Big Cat Safari visits both the Masai Mara and Samburu National Reserve . With its undulating grasslands and abundant wildlife, the Mara ecosytem is an incomparable setting for a safari, while the more arid landscape of Samburu is home to various rare species confined to northern Kenya - Grevy's zebra, Reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx and Gerenuk are all there, along with healthy populations of African savannah elephant, Cape buffalo and a variety of other antelope. And with all these ungulates about, Lion, Leopard and Cheetah are never too far away...

As with all of our sample itineraries, this itinerary can be tailored to suit individual requirements.

Itinerary

Depart from London on your overnight flight to Nairobi. ** If you prefer the BA daytime flight instead, let us know and we'll amend itinerary accordingly.
On arrival this morning you will be taken to your early morning flight to Samburu On arrival you will be met and transferred to Elephant Bedroom Camp on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River. Your luxury tent reflects the Arabic influence on this part of Africa and provides the opportunity for private game watching from your own veranda. Your 3-night stay includes morning and afternoon game drives, escorted walks and delicious meals.
Partake in well organised game-related activities in the Samburu, where you can seek out a variety of species which frequent a drier habitat than what one sees in the Mara. Game viewing is excellent and birding prolific. Large mammals present include 4 of the so-called 'Big 5' (so, all except Rhino) and some dry-country species of interest, notably Oryx and the endangered Grevy's zebra. As with the Mara, big cat sightings are generally good.
Savour another day in the Samburu area, seeking the wonderful wildlife protected here while enjoying top-notch hospitality. Aside from enjoying observing the resident mammals, birders will find plenty of interest: keep an eye open for the likes of massive Kori bustards; the fabulous Secretary-bird; Bateleur and the striking Vulturine guineafowl.
Game-drive transfer to the airstrip for the morning flight to the Mara, where you will be met for the game-drive transfer to Governors' Camp. Your 3-night stay includes three game drives per day, all meals and if desired, village and school visits.
Max out on wildlife today on the world-renowned Masai Mara with Governors Camp as your very comfortable and well-located base. Epic mammal sightings aside, the Masai Mara ecosystem is also exceptionally rewarding for birding, with more than 500 species comprising the checklist. Indicators of a healthy ecosystem such as the spectacular Martial eagle, plus Critically Endangered vultures including Lappet-faced and White-backed vultures, thrive here and to observe them in their natural setting is a real privilege.
Staying at   Governors' Camp
Partake in more game-related activities today on the Masai Mara, one of the world's great wildlife hotspots. Aside from the so-called 'Big 5' (African elephant, African lion, Leopard, Cape buffalo, Black rhino), visitors come to see other notable large mammals, such as Cheetah, Masai giraffe, Plains zebra, Western white-bearded wildebeest, Topi and many more.
Staying at   Governors' Camp
An early morning game drive to catch up hopefully on previously missed-out species, will be followed by breakfast at camp and a transfer to the air strip for the flight back to Nairobi Wilson Airport. You'll be taken to a nearby hotel where you can have dinner if you wish (meal for own account). Transfer in the evening back to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight back to London Heathrow or selected other airports.
Arrive home after a wonderful African bush escape!
