Experience the spectacular Great Migration with this six-night small group tour of Tanzania.

Accompanied with an expert guide and like-minded wildlife enthusiasts, you’ll get in amongst the action via land cruiser, providing phenomenal game-viewing through its 360-degree view hatches.

You start in Tarangire National Park, known for its huge elephant population and giant baobab trees. For two nights, enjoy game drives exploring the area. Its dense wildlife includes buffalo, giraffe, wildebeest and kudu who migrate from the dry Masai steppe to Tarangire River during dry season.

From here, venture towards the Ngorongoro Crater to spend some time experiencing spectacular game viewing, during which you have an excellent opportunity to spot four of the ‘Big Five’.

And finally, you’ll get to witness the beautiful Serengeti in all its glory. Game is plentiful year-round, and of course we cannot forget one of the most incredible natural phenomena in the world: The Great Migration. From December to July, vast herds of wildebeest and zebra gather in columns up to 40km long for the triangular trek from Tanzania to Kenya in search of fresh grazing pastures.

Itinerary

Depart the UK on your overnight flight to Kilimanjaro via Nairobi with Kenya Airways or another airline.
Arusha
On arrival today, you'll be met and transferred to your hotel in Arusha. Spend your first night here recovering from your overnight flight and getting ready for your adventure tomorrow. Breakfast is included.
Kickstart your safari adventure with an early morning brief at your Arusha hotel before heading off to Tarangire National Park. Here, you’ll spend the day enjoying game drives, with a picnic lunch included. During the dry season (June to September), thousands of animals – including elephant, buffalo, giraffe, wildebeest and kudu – migrate from the dry Masai steppe to Tarangire River in search of water. Overnight at one of the migration mobile camps.
Today, enjoy a leisurely day with game drives exploring Tarangire National Park. The rolling landscape is dotted with towering termite mounds and giant baobab trees. During your journey, you may spot some of the 550 bird species and game such as the incredible elephant herds. Throughout the park is a dense wildlife population, which also includes lion, leopard and other predators. Overnight at one of the migration mobile camps.
In the morning, enjoy a game drive in Tarangire. Then head to Karatu, a bustling town and the gateway to the Ngorongoro Highlands. Stop on the way to view Manyara and the beautiful escarpment below. Ngorongoro Crater is the largest unflooded volcanic caldera in the world, features thickly forested walls dropping 600 metres into a natural arena that supports enormous concentrations of wildlife. Overnight at one of the migration mobile camps.
Wake up early and enjoy a full morning and picnic lunch in the Ngorongoro Crater. The volcanic caldera of Ngorongoro offers spectacular game viewing here, where you have an excellent opportunity to see four of the ‘Big Five’. Continue onto the Serengeti, home to more than three million large mammals spread over vast endless plains, where you may encounter the fascinating spectacle of the Great Migration. Spend the next three nights in migration mobile camps.
After breakfast, return by road to Arusha. Or, transfer to the airstrip for your optional return flight back to Arusha/Kilimanjaro Airport. From here, take your flight back to the UK.
