This nine-day Réunion outdoor adventure combines hiking through three spectacularly beautiful natural amphitheatres - the remains of long since dormant volcanic craters - with time to chill on Réunion's west coast sand beaches at Gilles-les-Bain. A good level of fitness is required for the walking and as it's an unaccompanied trip it is more suitable for experienced hikers. We can arrange a qualified mountain guide for you, at additional cost, which will greatly enhance your enjoyment if you are fairly new to hiking.

Extensions:

Extend your stay to explore the volcano - on foot, on horseback or by mountain bike.

Prices from £120 for a two-day extension, including accommodation on a B&B basis and car hire. Our 15-day hiking tour includes Piton des Neiges, Roche Plate and the volcano, Piton de la Fournaise, ask for details.

Itinerary

Day 1 | Fly UK to Réunion

Fly overnight from the UK to Réunion via Mauritius.

Day 2 | St Gilles-les-Bains

On arrival and after a briefing, you will be transferred to St Gilles-les-Bains. Opportunity to buy some supplies for your hike from the local supermarket. Overnight at the Alamanda, breakfast included.

Staying at

Day 3 | The Cirques

Transfer to the Col du Bélier on the western rim of the Cirque de Salazie. It is three to four hours easy hiking to La Nouvelle (1470m), where you will be able to stock up on provisions for the following days. Overnight at Gîte La Nouvelle, Creole dinner and breakfast included.

Day 4 | The Cirques

Hike four hours south to Marla (1600m), a small hamlet at the south of the cirque, with its pastures and fields of lentils. Overnight at Gîte in Marla, dinner and breakfast included.

Day 5 | The Cirques

Hike seven to eight hours up to Cilaos via the Col du Taibit (2082m). Overnight at Tsilaosa, breakfast included.

Staying at

Day 6 | St Gilles-les-Bains

You will be transferred to the lively beach resort of St Gilles-les-Bains to stay three nights at the four-star Boucan Canot, breakfast included.

Staying at

Day 7 - 8 | St Gilles-les-Bains

Relax on the beach, go surfing, diving or sightseeing. In the evenings explore the cafes and restaurants in town.

Day 9 | Flight Home

Transfer to the airport for your flights via Mauritius back to the UK.
