The great Serengeti migration is a breathtaking spectacle of 1.7 million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of plains game searching for fresh grass. The best time to see these great animals calving is between January – March and again in November and December when they return from the Masai Mara, Kenya.

This popular holiday takes you to Tarangire National Park famous for its baobab trees and huge number of elephants. Enjoy the beautiful scenes of the breathtaking Lake Manyara stretching out in front of you along the Rift Valley, the clear blue water meeting with the volcanic peak horizon. Your guide will take you on two full days of game viewing in the Central Serengeti, an area rich in game and wildlife year round.

Itinerary

Depart from the UK on an overnight flight to Kilimanjaro, Tanzania
You will be met at Kilimanjaro Airport by your private guide for the next couple of days. Set off in your private 4x4 safari vehicle with your driver/guide for the 3-4 hour journey to Tarangire National Park. Marvel at the towering termite mounds rising like citadels from the red earth of Tarangire. Impressive Baobabs dot the plains, antelope step daintily through the grasslands and year-round river elephant sightings are consistently rewarding. Picnic lunch in the park. In the late afternoon exit the park and head up the Rift Valley wall to Karatu, your base for the next two nights. You will stay at Tloma Lodge, one of the charming lodges that are perfectly situated to take advantage of your surroundings. Dinner and a restful night sleep.
We suggest a lie-in and leisurely breakfast. Mid morning, set off with your guide for the short drive into Lake Manyara National Park. The prettiest of Tanzania’s National Parks, Manyara is largely made up of a vast soda lake, which attracts hundred of species of bird. Elegant flamingos tip toe in the shimmering waters, ever entertaining warthogs dart around with their tails erect like little aerials and hippos do what they do best: wallow. Picnic lunch in the park. Return to Tloma Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Staying at   Tloma Lodge
Depart after breakfast to ascend the outer slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater, skirt the crater rim and then descend down the western slope and onto the Serengeti Plains. You are based here for three nights at Asanja Camp, a permanent camp perfectly located in the Central Serengeti area, allowing for year round game viewing Dinner and sleep to the sounds of wildlife around you.
Two full days on safari in the Central Serengeti are. Set off with picnic lunches each day for uninterrupted game-drives or let your guide know if you would prefer to return to camp for lunch. Many film crews choose this time of year (Jan - Mar and November) to shoot wildlife documentaries as game viewing in the southern Serengeti during migration and calving season is truly exceptional. The female wildebeest are drawn to this area by the particular grasses found here; they are high in calcium and magnesium, essential for calving and milk production. Wildebeest calving can begin anytime between January-March. More than 750,000 females will drop their calves usually within a 3-week period of time, so predator versus prey activity is at a peak.
Staying at   Asanja Moru
This morning, you will depart the lodge and be taken to the airstrip where you will board your light aircraft flight to Arusha and make your onward flight to London.
