Looking for a Latin America experience that’s totally unique?

Amid the Andes in southwest Bolivia, the world's largest natural salt lake – Salar de Uyuni – spreads out for over 12,000 square kilometres. To discover just how truly extraordinary this natural wonder really is, head out on a two or three-night tour of the dramatic landscapes via Airstream Campers.

These shiny aluminium, American-style campervans cater for up to two guests and are fully equipped with twin or double beds, electric blankets, heating and a private bathroom with hot shower. With a personal chauffeur/guide, explore this vast crystalline lake by 4WD during the day.

By night, you’ll be left to experience complete silence and solitude under some of the most amazing starry skies on the planet and look out to surreal pentagons of salt extending as far as the eye sees. Stop at rocky islands covered with huge cacti and visit the Tunupa Volcano and Coquesa Mummies.

As the sun sets, enjoy a cocktail while your dinner is being prepared by your private chef. Then, when dusk falls, experience world-class stargazing opportunities before tucking up in a cosy camper.

Itinerary

Fly to Uyuni from La Paz. Upon arrival, you’ll transfer with your private guide to join up with your Airstream Camper – your humble abode for the next two nights. After lunch, enjoy a visit to the village of Tahua, at the foot of Tunupa Volcano, and visit the cave of the Coquesa Mummies. Watch the sunset over the salt flats and the spectacular show of colours as night falls. While a hearty meal is prepared, sip your cocktail before digging in. Then enjoy total serenity on the salt flat.
Today is a full day of exploration, so make sure you have your sunglasses and sun cream handy. The largest salt flat on Earth measures over 12,000 square kilometres and offers unbeatable scenery of otherworldly rock formations, cacti-studded islands, volcanoes and lakes. Along the way, be on the lookout for llamas and flamingos. Great expanses of red desert are where mineral rich and vividly coloured lakes support flocks of one species – the rare James’ flamingos.
After a delicious breakfast in the morning, continue over the salt flats and explore as much as you possibly can while returning to Uyuni for an evening flight back to La Paz.
