Cenotes
Whilst on the Riviera Maya; don't miss out of a visit to one of the Yucatan's famous cenotes (sinkholes). All part of the vast network of underground rivers that connect over 30,000 of these enticing natural wonders within the peninsula, these hidden subterranean natural sinkholes are undenyably beautiful swimming spots. Sometimes used by the ancient Maya for sacrifical offerings; they were often thought to be a connection to the Mayan underworld.
Holbox
Just north of the Yucantan Peninsula, in the Gulf of Mexico, is the laid-back island of Holbox. Long and slender, surrounded by crystal-clear Caribbean seas and sandy streets, Holbox is the ultimate destination for relaxation. Within the Yum Balam reserve; Holbox is home to more than 150 species of birds and in the summer months, whale sharks are known to congregate in the nearby waters.
