Few hotels in the world can boast such a storied history as the Belmond Monestario. Built in 1595 on top of an Inca palace, the former Spanish monastery located on quaint Plazoleta Nazarenas, offers a fusion of contemporary luxury and traditional style. Exquisite art adorns the walls, there is a series of courtyards, a baroque chapel and a 300 year old cedar tree. Its 126 rooms and suites were dormitories for the Jesuits once stationed in the monastery and no two are exactly alike. Rooms feature antique furniture, religious art and window shutters that open up over Cuzco's terracota roofs. There is a modern, luxury restaurant serving up Peruvian and international cuisine as well as a more traditional restaurant on site serving breakfast and dinner on Saturday night. The lobby bar, beneath a dramatic vaulted ceiling, is the perfect place to trade stories with a cocktail in hand.
