This itinerary has been designed for beginner birders, who also enjoy mammals and other aspects of natural history. Most birders planning on visiting Kenya will be aware that the country has a longer checklist (about 1,100 species) than any other African country. This is thanks to an incredibly diverse spectrum of habitats, from great lakes and semi-desert expanses, to lush evergreen forests; snow-capped mountains and undulating grasslands.
The locations you'll explore during this trip have been chosen because they have a reputation for harbouring abundant birdlife as well as for offering gratifying mammal-watching opportunities, so they're suited for experienced birders and keen novices alike. One of the many magical occasions you'd be able to savour is spending time with your experienced guide observing the huge concentrations of aquatic birds from a boat on Lake Naivasha. And then there are the diverse avian communities of the savannah, woodland and grassland habitats which you'll have the chance to investigate.
Of course there will also be plenty to see for mammal watchers: a stay of three glorious nights at a comfortable tented safari camp in the Masai Mara means you'll be enjoying game drives (with emphasis on birds, of course) and exploring the savannah and undulating plains with experienced, knowledgeable and personable bush guides.
Please note: for serious birders, we're always happy to tailor specialist itineraries incorporating the better-known localities appreciated by the international birding fraternity, such as Arabuko-Sokoke Forest near Malindi; the Taita Hills and of course, the Kakamega Forest in the western part of the country.
