The Zambia Rivers & Rainbows safari offers sensational game viewing, optimal birding, varied safari experiences - and in green and secret season, substantial savings on the normal cost of a safari in the South Luangwa. The valley is lush and beautiful, the wildlife is enjoying a time of plenty, it's the birthing season for many animals and the resident bird species are splendid in their breeding plumage. With the high water levels, you have the opportunity to explore the waterways of the South Luangwa on boat safaris - as well as on game drives and bush walks.

Itinerary

Depart from London Heathrow on overnight flight via Nairobi to Lusaka.
On arrival make your way through immigration, purchase visa and collect your luggage. Proceed through the airport to the domestic departures area where a representative will assist you onto light aircraft flight to Mfuwe Airport, the gateway to South Luangwa which will take just over an hour. On arrival you will be met and transferred by road through the villages of Mfuwe to Kakuli Bush Camp for a 3 night stay. Kakuli Bushcamp is situated on the confluence of the Luwi sand river and the mighty Luangwa River - surrounded by open plains dotted with young rain trees and taller tamarind trees. The camp is very open, and has a lagoon in front of the main area which attracts a variety of wildlife, including impala, puku, baboons and elephant. The main area is a large round thatched room with a deck overlooking the lagoon and the river. Your activities here will focus on walking in the mornings when the temperature is cooler, and evening river cruises, exploring the channels and waterways which open up when the river is high. The cruise is rounded off with a sundowner, floating gently on the current, as the Luangwa shows you one of her spectacular sunsets.
Luwi Bush Camp is situated on the permanent Crocodile and Hippo filled lagoon deep in the heart of the South Luangwa National Park. It is one of the more remote camps that is built each season with natural materials allowing it to blend in with nature. Spend the next four nights here with all meals and activities included. South Luangwa National Park is Zambia's best known national park, famous for its population of leopard, lion and elephant. The lifeblood of the park is the winding Luangwa River which forms the eastern boundary of the park and twists and turns, cutting a swathe through the floodplains. The Luangwa is a constantly evolving river - oxbow lagoons form as the river finds an easier course and these are a mecca both for the hippos and crocodiles which live in them, but also for the elephants, buffalo, giraffe, lion, leopard and other wildlife which rely on them as a source of water.
Road transfer to the Mfuwe airport for light aircraft flight back to Lusaka, to connect with your flight via Nairobi to London Heathrow
