Escape on a safari in the South Luangwa National Park, one of Africa’s greatest wildlife sanctuaries, travelling along the majestic Luangwa River a vital lifeline for a generous and diverse list of animals. South Luangwa allows both flora and fauna to flourish untouched and unhindered by manmade objects and fencing. Your fulfilling days will be abundant with animal sightings across the diverse habitats; an extraordinary insight into the nature of a true African wilderness witnessed either on foot or viewed from your safari vehicle.

Watch as the endemic Thornicroft giraffe, Cooksen’s wildebeest and Crawshay’s zebra wanders across the vast open plains; hundred strong herds of elephant, buffalo, impala and antelope stride through the marshes; pods of hippo wallow in the river banks unperturbed by the snapping crocodile; all the while feeling the presence of the powerful predators of lion, wild dog, leopard and cheetah.

Spend seven nights in this astounding wilderness travelling to three camps dotted along the magnificent Luangwa River. All three camps successfully preserve the unique flora and fauna of the Luangwa Valley, sharing its beauty with guests along with a quiet and exclusive atmosphere. Amazingly remote, especially Luwi camp, enjoy the feeling of being totally alone in the wilderness the sprawling acres of the National Park spread out in front of you ready to explore.  Always accompanied by the incredibly informed guides, this wonderful land is devoid of the flurry of rush-hour safari vehicles experienced in other National Parks together creating a peaceful and knowledgeable time.

Itinerary

Leave London on your flight to Lusaka, Zambia via Dubai.
You will land in Lusaka in the afternoon where you will be met for your light aircraft flight to Mfuwe, the getaway into Luangwa. Upon landing into Mfuwe you will be transferred to Kakuli where you will spend your first 2 nights with all meals, local drinks and safari activities included. The tents at Kakuli are all overlooking the Luangwa River. You can quite easily sit and watch the hippo activities from the deck of your tent! You can choose to do your activities on foot (with the walking catered to your preference can be long or short) or on game drive
Early morning wake up to search for the animals at their most active, in the morning. Whether grazing or hunting, they will be out and about at this time of the morning. Don't forget your fleece, as it can be chilly first thing in the morning, but be sure that it will warm up as the sun has a change to come up. You will have discussed with your guide whether you are walking this morning or driving and you will be on the look out for some amazing scenery and wildlife, not to mention the birds.
Staying at   Kakuli Bush Camp
South Luangwa After breakfast you will enjoy your morning game drive in the cool morning hours as you travel north up the meandering Luangwa River to Luwi Camp. Situated deep within the heart of the National Park, Luwi is amazingly remote with no other camps for miles just the hippos and crocodiles in the nearby lagoon for neighbours. Nestled underneath a collection of towering mahogany trees along the seasonal Luwi River this secluded location is ideal for walking safaris, experiencing the Luangwa wildlife from a different advantage point. Tracking and arriving upon a scene of animals is nothing short of breathtaking, a completely awe-inspiring moment which you will have plenty of amongst this prolific wildlife. Upon arrival at Luwi you will be welcomed by a buffet brunch and time to settle into your chalet before heading out for an afternoon walk. The next two days will be spent on morning and afternoon walking safaris exploring the area around the dry white sand of Luwi River, each day filled with new surprises in this unpredictable corner of Africa
Your morning will start early again in the search of game in the South Luangwa. Your morning will start off with a good cup of coffee and a muffin or two before heading out with your professional guide and scout. Nothing beats the sunrise over the valley so be sure that you will have a stop mid way through your safari to take in the sights and sounds before continuing on. Return back to camp for a lovely prepared brunch. After brunch you are free to relax and watch the animals in your surroundings, read a book or have a snooze before going on your afternoon activity.
Staying at   Luwi Bush Camp
The last camp, Mchenja blends effortlessly into the landscape the beautiful lounge built into a fallen ebony tree overlooking a huge bend in the river. Luxurious, elegant and stylish, a real highlight of the five octagonal tents is the private en-suite bathroom with Victoria style baths and river views. Brunch is a casual affair enjoyed in the shady lounge while dinner is served on the river banks underneath a sky heavy with stars. Choose between following the wildlife on foot or vehicle with the game viewing in this area some of the best in the park and the opportunity of a night drive not to be missed. Mchenja is a superb place to complete your luxury Zambian safari adventure, the landscape never ceasing to amaze you.
Enjoy the day watching wildlife on your activities from Mchenja. The views from this camp are amazing. You are so deep in the bush that you feel like you are the only people in Africa. Enjoy the peace, quiet and tranquility.
Staying at   Mchenja Bush Camp
Your last full day on safari. Take advantage! remember to try and tick off all of the animals on your species list including the likes of the Honey Badger ( highly elusive but often seen in camp)
Staying at   Mchenja Bush Camp
After a hearty breakfast to set you up for a day of travel, you will leave Mchenja for the Mfuwe airport taking you back to Lusaka Airport and onwards to London.
