Colombia’s coffee region, also known as the Coffee Triangle and the Zona Cafetera is located between the towns of Pereira, Armenia and Manizales. Made up of verdant green valleys, picturesque traditional towns and dotted with coffee plantations; the coffee region is one of the country’s highlights. Colombia is the third largest producer in the world and boasts some of the best quality coffee. The mineral-rich volcanic soils and higher altitude of this area provide the perfect conditions for the cultivation of coffee beans; we highly recommend visiting a working finca (coffee farm) to see the process from plant to cup. Whilst in the area don’t miss a visit to the Cocora Valley, a stunning national park of rolling hills and cloud forests teeming with hummingbirds and orchids; but the real highlight here is the famous Quindio wax palm which reaches heights of 60m – the tallest in the world! Los Nevados National Park is home to Colombia’s highest chain of volcanoes, for adventure seekers there are a multitude of treks and trails to explore. The hilltop towns of Salento and Finlandia are also a delight to wander with their brightly coloured houses and balconies.
