This sample itinerary starts with a couple of nights in Accra, enabling culture and history enthusiasts to take in the many attractions of the vibrant Ghanaian capital.

Not least among these are the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and a Fantasy Coffins workshop. Travel inland with your private guide and driver to Akosombo for a boat trip on the White Volta River, en route visiting Shai Hills. A night in the very comfortable Royal Senchi Resort is followed by the road journey to Kumasi, Ghana's second largest urban centre, where you can take in historical attractions such as Manhyia Palace and the craft villages around the city. One such is Ntonso, where Adinkra cloth is made, and Adamwomase, where you'll see how beautifully patterned Kente cloth is made.

After a couple of nights in Kumasi, travel to Cape Coast for a night near Kakum National Park, stopping en route at Bonkro Village for a cooking lesson and cacao farm visit. An early morning visit to enjoy the canopy walkway in Kakum National Park - along with a good fix of Upper Guinea forest birds and butterflies, will be followed by a drive to Axim for a three-night stay at the lovely boutique Lou Moon Lodge, the only site along the Ghanaian coast where swimming is safe.

Itinerary

Take the BA flight from London Heathrow to Accra, arriving at Kotoka Airport in the early evening. Your dedicated, private guide and driver will transfer you to La Villa Boutique Hotel in Accra for a two-night stay, with all meals included.
After breakfast, your guide and driver will collect you from the hotel. Set off on a day of exploration in and around the capital. Stops made include the Independence Square, Jamestown Community, Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, a Fantasy Coffins workshop and the Artist Alliance Gallery. If you have an interest in birds, visit the brilliant Achimota Forest in Accra.
After breakfast, depart Accra to the Shai Hills Resource Reserve and TK Beads workshop, continuing afterwards to Akosombo for an overnight stay in the Royal Senchi Resort. Enjoy a boat cruise on the White Volta River. All meals are included.
This morning, depart for Kumasi, with stops at Aburi Craft Village and Aburi Botanical Gardens along the way. Stay for two nights at Ike's Cultural Village in Kumasi, with all meals included.
Stops taken today include the Manhyia Palace, Kejetia Market and the nearby villages of Adanwomase and Ntonso, where it's possible to learn about how the famed Kente cloth and Adinkra cloth are made. You'll have the chance to make your own strip of Adinkra cloth after seeing how the plant-based dye is made.
After breakfast, depart on the journey to Cape Coast region, stopping for lunch at Bonkro where you can enjoy a cooking lesson and visit a cacao farm. Continue to Jukwa for an overnight stay at Rainforest Lodge, with all meals included. If you have an interest in wildlife and wish to try for some interesting nocturnal species, such as Pel's anomalure, let us know and we can arrange a night walk at Kakum.
After an early breakfast, a 15-minute drive will take you to Kakum National Park, where you enjoy experiencing the Canopy Walk for beautiful rainforest views and a spot of birdwatching. You should also see many butterflies and, if lucky, some lesser spot-nosed monkeys. Afterwards, drive to Axim on the coast and continue on to the stylish Lou Moon Lodge for a three-night stay in an ocean-view standard suite room, with all meals included.
